As we bask in all things Daredevil Season 2 this weekend, we’re reminded that another of Marvel’s street level heroes is debuting on Netflix later this year.
After putting in some duty on last year’s phenomenal Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Luke Cage will front his own series exploring his past and his immediate present following the events of his lady love’s show. In the comics, Cage was an incarcerated criminal who volunteered to be a guinea pig for scientific experiments using inmates as test subjects. An accident causes the experiment to go awry, but instead of dying, Cage is given skin density like metal, impervious to injury, as well as superhuman strength. The brief touches on his backstory on Jessica Jones seem to reveal they are sticking close to this origin.
Those who have made their way through Hornhead’s second season are rewarded, not just having witnessed a fantastic collection of episodes of one of the best shows on TV, but also with a short teaser of the upcoming adventures of the man who would be Power Man, the Hero for Hire.
Marvel’s Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley, and Rosario Dawson. It premieres September 30, 2016 on Netflix.
