At last, we finally have a premiere date for Marvel’s The Defenders: August 18th.
Netflix revealed the date in coy fashion in a promo video using the time code of security footage. The four street level heroes — Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) — enter an elevator at Midland Circle Financial, the banking institution mentioned by the criminal underworld since the first season of Daredevil, at the time stamp of 08:18:08:18. As they mill around, anxiously awaiting what they’ll find on their floor destination, Jones notices the security camera. She jumps up and smashes it, ending the footage at the time stamp of 08:18:20:17.
Midland Circle is the bank purchasing the various tenement buildings in Hell’s Kitchen, including the one Matt and Elektra (Elodie Yung) discover a huge hole to somewhere in the basement in Daredevil Season 2.
Back in January in an Entertainment Weekly cover story, it was revealed that this meeting at Midland Circle is the first time the four heroes come together, as each follows their own trail leading to the building. That’s Sigourney Weaver as the voice of the elevator saying “going down.” Weaver plays the miniseries’ big bad, Alexandra.
The video also reveals a dotted quad IP address in the upper left corner. It takes you to NYBulletin.com, an “archive” site for the newspaper Ben Urich once worked for and now Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) does. The site features an interview with Iron Fist‘s Ward and Joy Meachum, an add for Colleen Wing’s (Jessica Henwick) dojo, a spotlight on “everyday heroes” like Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, and various covers touting events from each of the four Defenders’ series.
Marvel’s The Defenders premieres all eight episodes on Netflix on August 18th.
