• Kilgrave releasing a virus generated from his body into the air that makes others susceptible to his command is a similar take on the ability of his comic counterpart, the Purple Man. Purple Man secrets a pheromone that compels others to do things.
• Will Simpson’s lighter that he uses to set the lab on fire features an American flag standing on end. This is a nod to the comic character he is based on, the criminal Nuke. Frank Simpson had a scar carved into his face by Wolverine that resembled an American flag. He eventually tattooed his face with the flag on end.
